I was lucky to be born into a family of scientists and naturalists, and grew up surrounded by people who cared deeply about the world around them, and combined a great curiosity with XXX. Eventually, some of that rubbed off on me!
I grew up in the countryside of southern France, catching newts and snakes in the nearby ponds, and dodgind wild boars when I went walking with our dogs in the evening.
I was introduced to the tropics at a young age, where I discovered a hallucinatory palette of colors entirely different from the ochre tones of my homeland. And after I saw my first hummingbird, my heart was lost forever.
I studied as a biologist, drawn as I was by questions about the behavior of primates, all the while continuing to travel to remote places and developing an ever greater appreciation for the mind-boggling diversity of the wild places of the world, and the threats they faced.
I can’t remember when I first picked up a camera, though I clearly remember the excitement of rushing to adjust settings as a black mamba crossed the road right in front of us in South Africa. My first frustrations too, as my camera failed in Borneo, minutes before a herd of pygmy elephants appeared on the river bank, only a few meters from us.
Ever since, I’ve trying to tell stories from far flung corners of the world, to share some of the beauty and wonder of these places that I’ve been fortunate enough to visit.
